        Bio

Laura Moriarty was born in Beacon, New York in 1960, and currently lives and works in Rosendale, New York. A self-taught artist, her work has been the subject of twelve solo exhibitions since 1992, including, 'Upheaval' at Artspace, New Haven (2009). Moriarty’s work has been featured in numerous group exhibitions throughout the US, Canada and Europe, including Geologic Time at Conrad Wilde Gallery (2010); Ecotones and Transition Zones at the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art (2009); Hyper-Nature at Spaces in Cleveland (2008); and Natural Selection at Albany International Airport (2007).  Residencies include the NOCCA Institute in New Orleans, Women’s Studio Workshop, The Frans Masereel Center in Belgium, Oberpfälzer Künstlerhaus in Germany, Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and The Ucross Foundation in Wyoming.  Laura has the distinction of having been awarded two Pollock-Krasner Foundation grants, (1997 and 2007).  In 2009, the artist was selected to take part in MARK 09, a professional practice program for visual artists administered by the New York Foundation for the Arts, and was subsequently selected to be a statewide consultant for the program.
